Following yesterday's major snowstorm, we had an unexpected visitor, today. In fact three of them. Fox Sparrows (speaking of the red morph) are not uncommon in our region in the winter, but they are woodland birds that breed in the boreal north, and look for dense thickets here. Since I started keeping track (four years ago), I've never seen them in our yard. It must really be slim pickin's out there for three of these pretty Sparrows to pay us a visit and sample the cuisine, while scratching and hopping.
