From the #ImpeyAlbum, this #Painting was commissioned by Lady Impey of #Calcutta #Bengal
Zayn's #Bird & #Animal subjects were almost always painted from life, on the English Whatman paper, using European watercolors.
Of the 326 #Paintings brought back to England by the Impeys in 1783, 17 were of animals.

Commissioned by Brothers William & James Fraser to Depict Local Life in #Delhi.
James was Friends with the #AngloIndian Col. James Skinner of the Famous Irregular Cavalry Corps of Skinner's Horse while William was offered Rank of a Major in the Corp which he Accepted with the Permission of #EastIndiaCompany Resident Sir Charles Metcalfe.

'A Lesser Adjutant Stork (Leptoptilos Javanicus).
c1775 AD #CompanyPainting from #Lucknow estimated £60,000-80,000.
This #Painting was in the collection of Claude Martin (1735-1800) who was then in service of Nawab Asaf ud-Daula
as a Major General of the Army of #EastIndiaCompany which he had joined in 1760, switching over from French Compagnie des Indies.
In 1770's he imported 17,000 sheets of European paper on which such paintings were made.

The Carlton Rochelle Collection of #CompanyPaintings was auctioned by Sotheby's on 27th Oct 2021.
It was one of the largest sale of #CompanySchool #Paintings.
