Sanctioned in June 2022, the Gurgaon Municipal Development Authority (GMDA) had floated a tender in October 2022 for a Rs 191‑crore sewage‑treatment project at Behrampur. After six months without any bids, the tender was cancelled in March 2026 because the Public‑Health‑Engineering Department revised the technical norms. The authority has now re‑invited bids, with the new tender set to open on April 28, 2026, to build a 400 MLD main pumping station (MPS) and an additional 100 MLD sewage‑treatment plant (STP) at Behrampur.

The proposed works will link the new MPS and STP to the master sewer network that already covers sectors 58‑67 (about 23 km laid by the Haryana‑Shri Vishwanath Puri Project) and will extend to sectors 68‑76 under GMDA’s implementation. Once the network is complete, the plant is expected to handle a substantial rise in wastewater from the rapidly expanding residential and commercial zones along the Southern Peripheral Road. A biogas‑powered generation unit will be installed to use the gas produced during treatment, helping to offset operational costs.

Currently, Behrampur’s existing plant can treat 170 MLD, but only 30 % of the output meets tertiary‑treatment standards. To close this gap, GMDA is concurrently upgrading the older 120 MLD facility to tertiary level, aiming to cut the biological oxygen demand (BOD) from 30 mg/L to 10 mg/L so the water can be reused for agriculture, construction and groundwater recharge. The entire upgrade and the new 100 MLD addition are slated for completion within two years after the contract is awarded.
