The Site-Search Paradox: Why The Big Box Always Wins — Smashing Magazine

Success in modern UX isn’t about having the most content. It’s about having the most findable content. Yet even with more data and better tools than ever, internal search often fails, leaving users to rely on global search engines to find a single page on a local site. Why does the “Big Box” still win, and how can we bring users back?

Roadmap 2026 — Charting the stars of the open social web

The 2026 roadmap focuses on making WordPress easier to discover and interact with across the Fediverse. Key areas include better search and recommendations through FASP support, Starter Packs to help users find communities, a more interactive Reader with reactions and replies, direct messages, and client-to-server APIs. Alongside these, we’ll continue improving interoperability, long-form publishing, and overall federation features.

With #KCS, we try to understand the #context of requestors and use the words they used to describe their problem. This improves the subsequent #findability of #knowledge articles for other customers from the same target group.

Covering hidden=until-found | CSS-Tricks

Short story: Slapping hidden=until-found on an element in HTML enables any hidden content within the element to be findable in the browser with in-page search.

Intrigued By The LLMs.txt

Intrigued by the LLMs.txt file spec. Though not completely supported, I see it as a way to get your site in the AI engines.

I know many people feel that letting the AI engines have your content you’re aiding and abetting bad behavior on the part of these AI companies.

To some extent I agree, but I also want my content to be surfaced in these new AI search engines.

I can see why news publishers wouldn’t want this. But for companies getting the citations before their competitors do that seems ideal.

I need to dig more into the LLMs.txt file and how it works and keep up with it. I’ll report more and I learn more.

It looks like it’s still in its infancy, but it’s definitely something to keep an eye on.

Thanking the @letsencrypt folks for the excellent work they do, and especially for their upcoming support for security certificates for IP addresses which is nothing short of revolutionary for the future of the (Small) Web.

FYI - For Your Information.

I regularly answer to a #toot with just a bunch of #hashtags related to the content or media of the said #post.

It's not only a matter of search engine optimization (#SEO), but also a stake of #findability for this #content.

If search engines (#DuckDuckGo, #Kagi, #SearxNG...) may index your #Mastodon account, according to you settings,
the software itself does not index a toot unless it has a #hashTag.

Why are remote controls nearly always black plastic?

TV, Amazon Fire, Soundbar, Roku, OSMC and they are just the ones I can see right now. There are others in drawers.

They are all black.

Why aren't they made in colours that are easier to spot?

Does anyone have some creative solutions?

I'm not too keen on Slack. I’m having issues with findability - at least in the mac app. For instance, I don’t necessarily think it is easy finding the particular chat for which recent notifications belong to. It is just cluttered.

Sadly, the AI stuff doesn’t make it any better 👇

I’m going to keep using it, though. At least for as long as my workplace, my colleagues, and business partners think it is a nice platform 🤷‍♂️
