Pre-cooked pizzas were seized in Albania and labeled “Made in Italy.”

AGI – More than 5,000 food products were seized as part of an investigation into fake Made in Italy products, and will be donated to charities in Barletta, Andria, and Trani. This was ordered by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Trani, through the Bat Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza. The goods were seized by Finance Police from the Barletta Group during customs checks at the city port. Within a truck originating from Albania, pre-baked products were found, particularly pizzas and pinsa, with packaging and packaging deemed suitable to mislead consumers into believing they were Italian products.

Examination of the documentation obtained identified the recipients of the shipment. On the order of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, searches were carried out in the provinces of Naples, Milan, and Reggio Calabria, where other products of the same type and with similar misleading indications of origin were found.

Investigations, alleged crimes, and donation to charity

There are two people under investigation: the truck driver and the recipient of the goods, who would then have distributed the products in various locations in Italy, including Naples. Among the criminal hypotheses being considered is the introduction of food products into the territory of the State with false or otherwise misleading indications of Italian origin.

As these are perishable and close to expiry dates, the Public Prosecutor’s Office ordered the donation to charity, destined for the most needy families in the province through the Caritas of Barletta, Andria and Trani.

The delivery of goods and the protection of Made in Italy

The delivery took place at the headquarters of the Bat Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza. Representatives of the Caritas expressed appreciation for the initiative and the social purpose of the measure. The operation is part of the fight against illicit supply chains of fake Made in Italy in the agro-food sector, a sector considered strategic for the protection of national productions and businesses that operate in accordance with the rules.
