I'm not doing #fieldwork in #Greenland this year: but my colleagues are up there now. The sea ice off #Qaanaaq is breaking up extra early again this year - probably related to the ice arch migrating up the Nares
Straits. Will be interesting to see how far the edge migrates in any case - ESA's #Sentinel2 on #Copernicus #EOBrowser is a brilliant way to keep track

Fieldwork
Preparing my first public talk on the topic of #listening. I am going through my #fieldwork material from #Kyrgyzstan and found a little notebook into which I had drawn 1 sketch each evening. This is me, sweeping the courtyard, listening to my neighbours' girls singing & dancing for me. I miss them.

Random from SIPEXII 2012.

I was coordinating a team of people drilling holes through sea ice at 1m intervals along a transect line. The helicopter was doing laps overhead for snow radar reasons, so we had a play. From left to right:

1. business as usual, drilling away
2. making some kind of symbol?
3. all waving at the camera
4. oops there's been an incident!

I'm telling you, you *want* me to run your field things. Do awesome, be safe, have fun!

Over on LinkedIn, my colleague Prof. Wendy Timms has a nice video of her on groundwater recharge fieldwork in the lava caves at Byaduk. Check it out!

Come underground in this rough cut quick video from the past few days (and earlier)! We are exploring the relationship between each rainfall event and water underground - led by Prof Andy Baker FRSN FAGU with a wide research team. The Australian Research Council funded setup of this National Observatory*. Shout out to local helpers including catchment managers, geotech engineers and gold geologists, my family, and students and uni staff who have ventured into our underground spaces in mines, tunnels and caves for this valuable data (2022-to date). It's a followup to an IAH2025 presentation* on implications of record low soil moisture deficits across parts of Australia for water availability in catchments and basaltic aquifers and associated reports on drip seepage in local mines. Now back to the computer and catching up on desk work.... *The IAH presentation is here with links to download several journal papers and articles: https://lnkd.in/geCsZSji

Spring is here, and with that the mining bees have emerged. We are trying out our airborne eDNA sampling in an aggregation that is close to campus. Concentration of airborne eDNA is LOW, so please wish us luck!
