When the circle of caring people is established, emergent order manifests, automatically, no problem, on cue.

FAST: Revolutionizing Product Discovery Through Fluid Teaming

Leading voices in modern product management — like Marty Cagan, Jeff Patton, Teresa Torres, and others — agree that integrating engineering into product discovery leads to faster, more innovative…

Emergence is both the mystery and the substance of complex systems, and is ultimately the reason why a business manager needs to care about complexity. Emergence is a state that is somewhere between order and anarchy.

#FASTAgile sits in this space between order and anarchy - to enable emergence.

The resiliency of a self-organizing system comes from its capacity to adapt as needed, to create structures that fit the moment. Neither form nor function alone dictates how the system is organized. Instead they are process structures, reorganizing into different forms in order to maintain their identity. The system may evolve to a new order, depending on what is required. It is not locked into any one structure; it is capable of organizing into whatever form best suits the situation. #FASTAgile

"When I came across FAST I was like - this is the thing I've been looking for forever. This is the thing!

We did FAST - the team hated it at first. But a few months in they didn't want ever want to work any other way. They loved it! The bus numbers were gone, the dependencies were gone, the cross-learning was there. Adapting to any problem that ever came was there. It was amazing seeing that happen." - Ariel Pérez

"The optimal structure of the product organization is a moving target. The organization's needs should and will change over time" - just as org design and team makeup should change. #FASTAgile #BetterWaysOfWorking #ModernProductManagement
“If you want to scale and be agile, the solution may not be more scrum teams. When you have a lot of work to do, you have to ask, What is the shape of the work, and what’s the best shape of people to do the work?” Dan North described a process of asking these questions quarterly and adjusting assignments and organization continuously in response to the nature of the work. #FASTAgile
Self-organization in business relies on the intelligence that exists in every part of a complex adaptive system, in the mind of every employee. That capacity, in turn, allows companies to seize opportunities and solve problems as they arise. #SelfOrganization and emergence are the twin engines of #adaptive work. Through these capacities, a company can explore new, previously undiscovered paths to reach a desired destination or new and previously unimaginable destinations. #FASTAgile
