Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency claimed to cut over 29,000 federal contracts and grants, but failed to deliver the promised $1 trillion in savings. A NYT investigation revealed many large claimed cuts, including supposed savings of $7.9 billion from Defense contracts, were false—those contracts are active. Out of 40 top claims, only 12 were verified as real savings, with most smaller cuts accounting for a tiny part of the federal budget.
