Interestingly, we don't have to pay DSIM fee on own power we generate. Which is common sense, but I'd expect them to find a way... // It's a fee that allows utilities to recover costs associated with energy efficiency programs.

We also don't have to pay the ridiculous "2021 Winter Storm Fee" they get away with charging us on a per kWh basis. Really glad to see that one gone.

Though, it's not lost on me that by skipping that fee, it'll fall on our non-solar neighbors.

Shopping around for power: Missouri bill aims to break up electric utilities • Missouri Independent

Corporate energy companies in Missouri are vertically integrated, an economic term that means they both make energy and distribute it to customers.

I write letters and send them via USPS to CEOs. I have mixed results, but generally positive when critiquing gaps in their operations, poor service, etc.

Mr. David Campbell, CEO of the Evergy electric utility has the honor of being a repeat recipient, and I have a fresh one going out today.

Thankfully his team tends takes stuff seriously. Or at least pretends they do. If they really cared I wouldn't have to keep poking him in the eye about their DSM program administration.

It’s another beautiful sunny day here. And another day our solar panels are just pretty, virtue signaling roof decorations. Ughhhhhh! Fourteen days from install. Let’s goooooooooo

Our investor-owned [for profit] electric utility is such a pain. They reject stuff and put up road blocks wherever possible.

Today they rejected our grid tie-in application (for a system they already approved!) They claim the system is too big based on 12-month history at the property. But their own rules say when a customer doesn't have 12-months of history, system size is calculated based on sq ft.

Obviously the history at this place is going to be incorrect. It sat empty for three months after Grandpa died. And before then it was just him. FFS!

Oh boy, random power outage!

Being a professional curmudgeon, I often say that our electric company holds lines together with only duct tape and squirrel spit. A light wind can take out an entire grid here; it just has.

This is an outage that encompasses a number of miles, including the entirety of downtown, my entire neighborhood and at least two others, and is poking its snout into neighborhoods way south. It's not pretty.

I figure they don't bother fortifying the lines so that so they can keep paying their CEOs millions and millions of dollars a year to do absolutely nothing.

Today in corporations being stupid... I tried to buy an air purifier from our electric utility's discounted marketplace. But the marketplace said my electric co account isn't active (news to me!)

I opened a ticket in February. And have followed up multiple times since. Today, *EIGHT MONTHS LATER* I received a reply that they are still looking into it. 🤯 In what world does that make sense?

I wrote a physical letter to the electric co's CEO a few weeks ago. I have to wonder if that's why suddenly I've gotten an update. #KC #Missouri #Evergy
