Two evenings diagnosing a crash in some #ESPHome devices with two devs and have finally concluded...it was my config wot broke it 😖

On the bright side, I now have multi-room audio on speakers with teeny displays *and* the volume doesn't crash if set remotely.

ESPHome Developers released #ESPHome version 2026.1.5. https://esphome.io/
ESPHome - Smart Home Made Simple

ESPHome - Smart Home Made Simple. ESPHome turns ESP32, ESP8266, and RP2040 microcontrollers into fully-featured smart home devices.

Struggling with balancing #smarthome reliability/predictability with your hobby and the fancy obscure features that brings? I've written down some cool #esphome #homeassistant solution i've figured out recently, but the article also contains a lot of pointers applicable to other hardware choices. Do you know any #EspHome projet that has produced some cool display on LCD or eInk ? I would love to see some of the code they wrote. Please share some URL please

@Trilogy3452 #HomeAssistant on the server, #ESPHome on the sensors.
I found an unused #esp8266. It's supported by #esphome and seems to be doing the job just fine.

Any clues as to which is failing here...

ESPHome device is sat getting Bluetooth LE sensor readings from a bunch of Xiaomi thermometers, this works well, mostly, and has for years.

Occasionally, Home Assistant stops getting updated values from the ESP32, resulting in flat lines from each sensor.

The reboot 'switch' in HA will always work when pressed.

Is the ESP32 sending stale data?
Does HA lose connectivity with it?
Can I watchdog the reboot?

The number of times i've re-bought a USB TTL serial device, because the one i SWEAR I STILL HAVE has been misplaced (likely because its been years since i used it last, I just dont manually flash that often) is shameful.

That is all.

I used to vibe code my esp32 air quality sensor firmware but I tested #esphome and I LOVE it.
