I've slowly been adding energy consumption monitoring to my Home Assistant setup and while I have a couple of things to go (kitchen fridge, dryer with very inaccessible power point, dishwasher) I think I’m getting a handle on where most of our energy is consumed.
Home networking infrastructure - Starlink power brick, router, DNS server, Fingbox, HA Green, Tapo hub - and my personal computing - MacBook Pro, Thunderbolt Display (still going 13+ years later), and printer - are the biggest grouped consumers. Everything else uses small amounts across each day. When heating and cooling are on, they make a clear difference.
I'm mostly using Tapo P110M plugs as monitors as I don't have the time or space in the wall to put something like Shelly kit - the wiring in this place is best described as “interesting”. Where things like the AC units have their own measurements, I'm using those.
The untracked consumption is interesting. I *think* it's mostly our heat pump hot water kicking off in the morning each day. I'm going to have to dig out the manual and see if I can understand what it’s doing.
