The canadian federal government is going to be terminating public weatherradio broadcasts and emergency alerts on March 16th, 2026.
This is very bad. Cell & Internet emergency alerts have been dubiously reliable, and countless people in rural areas still rely on weatherradio for emergency alerts. What can we do to stop this? We can't let austerity cuts get in the way of life safety and emergency preparedness.

Need to be alerted when weather threatens? Or do you just want to hear the latest weather information for your area at any time of day or night, any day of the year? Environment Canada’s Weatheradio network broadcasts weather warnings and current observations and forecasts using the VHF public radio band, 24/7. Within range of more than 90 percent of the population, Weatheradio can be heard on special receivers and, in some areas, on ordinary AM/FM radio.

-Reflective heat blanket. Lightweight and compact, huge when unfolded.
-Bottled water
-Canned foods, particularly with pull-off lids. Make note of expiry dates and replace accordingly
-First aid kit
Although by no means exhaustive, this is a good beginning
