John Purvey, English Reformer, opposes religious icons, if people place hope in them, give them honor due to God alone, or, give them alms which are due to the poor.
We should be out and about helping people in the name of Jesus rather than spending time with a carving of Jesus.
Do we today, tend to do the opposite— excuse a lack of time with the poor on the basis of spending time “with Jesus”?

These days I'm thinking about #Brecht and #Videogames.
The verfremdungseffekt that Brecht aimed towards is based on critiques that are in conversation with those against #empathy from #queer game studies.
And yet, identification is a very powerful tool in games, which gives me pause in going against it. I guess it's an argument I understand intellectually but not really instinctively or emotionally.
