Als Slowenien noch römisch war, stand auf dem Gebiet Ljubljanas die Stadt Emona.

Davon heute noch sichtbar sind Teile der römischen Stadtmauer, zwei ausgegrabene römische Häuser sowie Grabsteine und Statuen.

Besonders: eines der beiden besichtbaren Häuser enthielt neben Thermalbädern – durch Feuer beheizt, nicht durch natürliche Quellen – auch ein christliches Taufbecken. Man kennt sogar den Namen des Ehepaars, das das Land für den Bau des Taufbeckens herschenkte.

(Und ja: der #Eurocity gleichen Namens ist nach der Stadt benannt)

Whenever travelling to #Vienna 🇦🇹 by train from the south and in the evening, I try to catch #EuroCity #Emona from #Ljubljana 🇸🇮 and #Trieste 🇮🇹. It’s got a #Slovenian #DiningCar, one of a kind - in the eyes of the railfan. (And there’s just one of these.) My snack tonight is composed of a #Kranj sausage and a beer from #Ljubljana.

Der #Emona ist heute Rappelvoll. Und quasi Ausreserviert. Leider sind die Reservierungen nur teilweise angeschrieben, was zu einer äußerst ungünstigen Stimmung im Zug führt …

At #Opicina 🇮🇹 station earlier today. An #ÖBB 🇦🇹 Class 1216 #E190 #Taurus in #nightjet livery has hauled #EuroCity #Emona up the ramp from #Trieste. A Slovenian #SŽ 🇸🇮 Class 342, nicknamed #Moped, takes over. It’s a short consist: three ÖBB open plan 2nd class carriages only. No 1st class and no bicycle van today.

One of the highlights of a trip on board #EuroCity train #Emona, next to the wonderful scenery, is the @diningcar of the Slovenian Railways, running between #Vienna 🇦🇹 and #Ljubljana 🇸🇮, serving meals cooked on board and freshly brewed coffee, in a very nice setting. ☕️🥐🍳

Among the European railway classics: #EuroCity 151 #Emona from #Vienna 🇦🇹 to #Ljubljana 🇸🇮 and #Trieste 🇮🇹. This train includes Austrian and Slovenian cars and runs over the #Unesco world heritage #Semmering route.

Und noch ein historischer Eisenbahnunfall, diesmal 31 Tote , als am 14.7.1984 ein Güterzug im Bahnhof Divaca (der #emona nähert sich unaufhaltsam Triest) auf einen Reisezug auffährt.
