One day in the mid-90s, my phone rang, and when I answered, the voice on the other end said, "Hello. This is the information superhighway calling."
I held the receiver out in front of me and stared at it, wondering if I was dreaming. #EarlyInternet #90s #InformationSuperHighway
Some 38% of webpages that existed in 2013 are no longer accessible, not the stuff invented with the birth of the world wide web in the late 1980s, 2013 for flip sale. An interesting stroll down memory lane.

Early internet in the early-mid 80s? There was a Dial up modem, I remember the sound. I remember hopping on to send a message probably to one. Of my mom's friends. She was a quadriplegic in Santa Cruz, CA, given a computer and dial-up access to the Internet or whatever it was called back then.
I always wondered why there was an ominous message upon booting up the computer, and I have no idea who or why it was there.... But it was something like:
"You are under the surveillance J. Edgar Hoover."
Was that early computer tech humor? She and her caregiver were not tech savvy but the did use it to communicate with other friends. Maybe there was a test program for disabled folks and Internet connection back then?

Whatever happened to Julia Nunes and those other two funny guys?
1/3 - @internetarchive I miss being a kid on mIRC. Before what most people today classify as social media, before ICQ, MSN Messenger, FrontPage 98, StarCraft, RuneScape, Napster, BitTorrent, or Stack Overflow. I was a kid fresh out of BBS discovering the “Information Superhighway” on a dial-up connection.
