In the fifth episode of our Consent & Coercion 101 series, we dive into the *really* interesting research that inspired Mardi’s PhD on sexual coercion. This includes two epic bits of research that debunk the ‘miscommunication theory’ (the theory that date rape is merely a result of men and women “not understanding each other”) and proof that, actually, men do know how to do consent – even when they claim that it’s confusing. This morning I joined a broad coalition of government, business, education, and philanthropic leaders to speak about the VCCF’s recently established Neighbors Support Fund. The common thread among all speakers was that, in the words of moderator Celina Zacarias, the measure of a civilized society is how well it cares for its most vulnerable residents. I’m so proud of my colleagues and staff for setting up the first municipal contribution to this very important fund.

@heidilifeldman I often don’t agree with the top leadership in my town, but I was thrilled to learn that they decided a private citizen doesn’t get a flag at half mast.
