"Trump’s attempt to erase slavery from national parks reveals his true colors
Donald Trump’s order to scrub the stain of slavery from America’s national parks is an attempt to revert to the days of white supremacy and Black subservience.
His actions only underscore his bigotry, racism, and lack of human decency.
The President’s House in Philadelphia is particularly vexing for Trump and his lackeys. There, at Sixth and Market Streets, George Washington not only housed enslaved individuals in the basement of his presidential home but actually shuttled them back and forth between Philadelphia and Mt. Vernon every six months to circumvent Pennsylvania’s emancipation laws.
(. . .)
And when Ona Judge, a 22-year-old lady’s maid (senior servant), managed to escape in 1796, Washington sought her capture and even offered a reward, happily to no avail. Judge lived the rest of her life in New Hampshire as a free woman.
It is clear that, the president and his lapdogs find these truths, like so many others, to be neither self-evident nor acceptable.
Trump’s revisionist history gambit will eventually fail, but his contempt for law, decency, and truth will live on, for he will have no power in the future to scrub his unconscionable acts from the public record."

Hey! Did you know the Treasury is planning to weaken the rules that protect our national parks? 😟 That means places like Dartmoor, the Lake District, and other wild landscapes could be bulldozed for car parks and development.
Once they’re gone, they’re gone forever. And I can't imagine a future Britain without these iconic beauty spots, and the wildlife and nature they're home to.
We can’t just sit back and let this happen.

“I have discovered that parks help fill a void for me,” writes Meagan Fischer, “of finding community in my devotion to the web of life. After years of frantic activism, I am learning to care for myself for the long haul, to surround myself with beauty.”
