Lawmaker Suhas Subramanyam recently wrote to Ferguson asking her to give evidence in an ongoing probe into Epstein’s sex‑trafficking operations, but as a non‑U.S. citizen she is not obligated to appear. The fear of being placed under oath about both Epstein and her ex‑husband, the Duke of York, is what she says makes a return “unbearable.”

The controversy stems from Ferguson’s long‑standing ties to the late financier. Her marriage to Andrew Mountbatten‑Windsor ended in 1996, but she later promoted books and lifestyle projects in the U.S., making her a familiar face on American TV. In recent months she was stripped of the Freedom of the City of York – an honour once awarded as a wedding gift – and lost the Duchess of York title when Andrew relinquished his dukedom after his own links to Epstein were exposed.

Since the scandal intensified, Ferguson has kept a low profile. She was last seen publicly at Princess Beatrice’s christening in London in December and is believed to be on a “secret sofa‑surfing world tour,” staying with friends in the UAE, an Irish wellness retreat in Donegal, and even a high‑cost recovery clinic in Zurich. Her avoidance of the U.S. appears to be part of a broader effort to stay out of the spotlight while the legal and public scrutiny surrounding her and her former husband continues.
