Gestern haben uns 18 Schüler*innen besucht, um am gemeinsamen #Girlsday & #Boysday in die faszinierende Welt der Klimaforschung einzutauchen. Gemeinsam mit dem #DKRZ haben wir vielfältige Einblicke gewährt: beim „Speeddating“ mit unseren Forschenden, am #Supercomputer & Klimaglobus im DKRZ und bei den Messeinrichtungen und im #Windkanal der Uni #Hamburg. #UHH

#ICON team earns international recognition in #HPC🏆👏
What an outstanding achievement! Using the ICON Earth system model, a team led by #MPIM + #DKRZ successfully simulated the full Earth system at an unprecedented grid spacing of 1.25 km. For this, they received the Gordon Bell Prize for #ClimateModeling, awarded at #SC25. The team also included experts from #JSC, #ETH Zurich, CSCS, #UHH, & #NVIDIA. We're thrilled, proud, & grateful for this wonderful recognition! 🎉

A team led by #MPIM & #DKRZ has received the prestigious HPCwire Readers’ Choice Award🏆, presented at the #SC25 conference in St. Louis, MO, US. It recognizes a simulation of the full Earth system with the #ICON model at 1.25-km resolution 🌐, which was carried out on the Alps & #exa_JUPITER supercomputers & achieved an unprecedented time compression of 145.7 simulated days per day. 👩🏼‍💻 #MPIM's 1st #supercomputer, a CDC Cyber-205, was installed in Hamburg's Geomatikum in 1985. 2.5 yrs later, the German Climate Computing Center #DKRZ was established as a service facility for climate research in Germany. Continuous upgrades enabled substantial progress in the development of realistic #climate models. Today, scientists from #MPIM &other institutes are using the Levante supercomputer, which has 70 million times the computing power of the Cyber-205! #MPIM50 #ThrowbackThursday #tbt

🌱🌎 Yesterday, #climate & #sustainability researchers from Asia, Africa, South & Central America visited #MPIM &#DKRZ. The meeting was part of a Germany trip in the scope of the introductory seminar for the @HumboldtStiftung's #ClimateProtection Fellows.👩‍🎓👨‍🎓 #MPI_scientists presented selected aspects of climate research at our institute. At DKRZ, the visitors enjoyed a tour of the supercomputer. It was a pleasure having them here! ✨
