Good morning #TrainBubble #BahnBubble 👋 This week I'll be in the Netherlands, and planning to do a bit of scouting about the #CyclingOnRails situation in the area (without bicycle but with the photo equipment 📸). Anything I should be aware of? Any recommendations?

So, I had quite a bit of buffer in Munich to account for DB delays and my first train arrived mostly on time (only ca. 25 min late) so I still had plenty of time to visit the local trains!
Nothing surprising: generous bicycle spaces in regional trains, not so much in long-distance trains in comparison. But a little photo shooting is always nice! 📸🧵

The Hungarian railways MÁV deserve a special mention for providing a detailed list of all train types they operate, with for each (1) a photo gallery *including bicycle spaces* and (2) a clear mention of the number of bicycle spots. https://www.mavcsoport.hu/en/mav-szemelyszallitas/domestic-travels/vehicle-types
If only all railway operators would offer this as a baseline!

Some shots of the Pendolino, Polish edition. 📸 4 bicycle spots as Pendolinos do but here it's vertical hooks. As a cyclist, you get a seat reserved next to your bicycle spot (as mentioned earlier, these are bundled together, bicycle fee is 8.10 PLN or about 2€).
Other than that I quite like the interior, feels nicer than the ones found in and around Switzerland.

It's a common refrain: more people would take the train - especially on international routes - if only it were cheaper! That line of argument assumes that there are actually more trains to take. In other words that there is spare capacity. The problem is that - in many cases
