"U.S. Sens. Tammy Baldwin and Lisa Murkowski have introduced a bill to write the 988 crisis line’s specialized services for LGBTQ+ youth into law, reviving them after the Trump administration ended them in July.

“We are in the middle of a mental health crisis, and the 988 lifeline saves lives, plain and simple,” Baldwin, a Wisconsin Democrat who is a lesbian, said in a press release. “There is absolutely no good reason that Donald Trump took away this specialized help for our LGBTQ youth. Mental health does not see partisan lines or geography, and I’m proud to be working with Democrats and Republicans to do what’s right and ensure that all kids have access to the help they need — regardless of who is president.” She is being joined by Murkowski, a Republican from Alaska."

Will someone PLEASE show me the railroad track carrying all the pseudoscience surveillance trains hauling "AI"-assist, instant "AI" QA, and sentiment detection "AI" to the US #988Lifeline, so I can lay down on the tracks and get it over with.

Ill-gotten conversations as data, stolen from persons when vulnerable. Impossible to have meaningful consent for that, to build these models. Includes exploitation of #CrisisLine workers. They are vulnerable in those moments also.

Pseudoscience for surveillance, control, to institutionalize and sanction continued neglect of basic supports for crisis lines, and in society.

Where's #SAMHSA? Where's the #FTC?

Thoughts: This is important because it centers the voices of #CrisisLine workers. Also, because Dan and Greta have the ability--and access--to communicate the messages to authorities within the systems.

In the US, the federal gov't agency #SAMHSA contracts with a non-profit #Vibrant to administer the #988Lifeline. This might solve some problems, but it creates many others. Non-profit is a tax designation & this is a capitalist system of "care". It also makes accountability difficult, except for the most egregious offenses that catch a day of heat, then we move on. #CrisisLine workers are typically isolated. In some cases, intentionally, by orgs they work for.
