Finished #CouchTo5K!!!

Pushed myself to run for 38 minutes in my final run to hit the magic 5K target.

Ran in my favourite place (my local woods) and spending more time in nature has been one of the highlights of this programme.

After three months of not running and niggling injuries, plus a mad first half of the year for me, I've decided to return to the NHS's 'Couch To 5K'.

Did it back in 2022 and feel it's the best measured and slow way to get me back up to 'standard' 30-minute runs.

With the added bonus of Denise Lewis' dulcet tones, of course.

I have only one run left in my #CouchTo5K program but while I can comfortably run for 30 minutes, I'm still very slow.

Today I ran for 32 minutes and just passed 4km.

So to encourage me to stick with it, I've just signed up for a local 5km race in three weeks time.

I don’t think I posted last week about my first #parkrun which was my first ever 5km run.

(I didn’t manage 5K at the end of my #CouchTo5k journey two days earlier).

Insanely hot, but lovely surroundings at Sizewell Beach, and I was accompanied by three running friends to support me.

I ran the whole way, and kept roughly to my sensible target pace of 9.5 min/km.

I was aiming for 48-50 min and managed 49 min, which was quite an achievement for me in the heat.

Here’s to friends! ❤

I think that’s my most satisfying #CouchTo5K run yet. I had to wake up at 6am to get out at 6:30 in order to avoid the heat.

I’ve started running in my local woods because they are notably cooler so I also got a nice burst of nature to refill my mental space as well.

One week to go! 🏃‍♂️

Casquette rules!

That was a very tough week 8 run of my #CouchTo5K program.

Knew it would be hot today. I thought I’d try to go for a run before 8 am but it’s still 20°! I managed it but I think next run will have to be at 6 am.

And #CouchTo5k is done 🙂

I’ve only managed just under 3.4km so far, but I can now run for 30 minutes consistently. And the last two runs I completely enjoyed (I dropped my pace a little to make it more sustainable).

Now to actually do my first 5km in two days time at a local beach-front parkrun. I’m aiming to be able to complete that in 48-50 minutes.

Just finished week 7 of #CouchTo5K! That’s three 25-minute runs. Next up will be week 8 with 28 minute runs!

Getting closer to the end now! 🏃‍♂️

#couchto5k

Stuck on a week 3 loop, and flubbed yesterday’s session. It’s 1.5 and 3 min run/walk cycles x2 (9 mins total running).

Legs are getting used to it, lungs can’t. I’ll be staying at week 3 until it becomes easier.

It’s a little frustrating to have hit a plateau this early on though I have a few clues as to the reason for this (if there are any).
