Banksy's anonymity has been shredded along with the mystery of his work
By Julia Baird

Does Banksy's success mean we are more entitled to demand he pull his mask off, show his face? Does it matter that he says his anonymity is core to his art?

Good vibes by Olena Kishkurno
Acrylic on canvas, 31" × 23" (80 × 60 cm).
This work brings together two rhythms - the pulse of the outside world and the stillness within.
Good Vibes is a visual meditation on the power of memory: how a fleeting scent, a warm breeze, or a familiar melody can transport us back to fragile moments of past happiness.

For years I’ve been finding black balloons on the sidewalks—leftovers from nitrous oxide sessions.

This tiny piece of trash says a lot about our era: the taste for the disposable, the joyful–sad energy of partying, and the indifference to what happens after everything deflates.

The empty, shriveled balloon also raises questions for me as an artist: can art—as a speculative activity and financial bubble—be conceived as degrowth-oriented? From my art history and philosophy courses, one characteristic stands out: art tells its own story as a grand adventure. Renaissance, avant-gardes, the race for originality, radicality, and other intellectual auctions—its narrative seems structured by an ideology of constant surpassing.
