One of the best parts of our journey to become a #ChurchOnTheMove has been Drop-In Coffee Hour! β˜•οΈβœ¨

It started small, just me in the coffee shop for an hour and a half each week. Now, the turnout has grown into an amazing group of incredible individuals!

From humble beginnings to a bustling gathering, this space has become a hub for connection and community. People drop in not only to see each other but also to catch up with me. Every week, we see friendships forming and support flourishing, out in the midst of the world in which we are called to #Mission.

Over the past year, we've expanded beyond imagination! Our gang has grown too large to fit around a single table. It's a beautiful testament to the power of genuine connections and the love that unites us. πŸ’™πŸŒŸ

You may not be able to join us in person, but think about ways that you can build togetherness and shared experiences in your own context. How can we build inclusive, uplifting communities that spread joy and embrace everyone? β˜•οΈβœ¨

My top 3:
πŸŽ‰ My brother and his family visited from Germany
πŸŽ‰ We went to a dear friend's wedding in Minnesota
πŸŽ‰ Our church started a new adventure of being a #ChurchOnTheMove

Things I'm looking forward to:
🌟 Intentional, one-on-one conversations with people about how communities of faith can be more involved in the community
🌟 Having our nephew stay with us for three months after Easter
🌟 A trip to Toronto to meet in person with colleagues later in January

For an extra dose of Holiday #Outreach, don't just donate to the food bank. Try carrying a couple of bags of food from your house on foot for a few blocks. Imagine what it's like to have to carry groceries like this on a regular basis. Many food bank clients don't have the luxury of a car (or even a ride) to go to the food bank to get their hampers. Taking a few moments in solidarity with the vulnerable and marginalized could change your whole perspective on generosity.

For those wondering what's been going on with our #ChurchOnTheMove, here's an update. The sale of the church BUILDING went through, and closed yesterday. The CHURCH, on the other hand, has been gathering to worship in our Cathedral on Sunday afternoons. We've lost some people, yes. But the people who ARE there on Sundays are excited and joyful, and are the ones who really WANT to be in church.

And even more excitingly, since we no longer have to worry about snowclearing and maintenance issues, we've seen a noticable increase in generosity towards outward-focused, #missional projects. Last week, we realized we were able to contribute an extra 40% over budget towards feeding the hungry!

As we pack up the last of the church contents and prepare to become a #ChurchOnTheMove, someone has put the coffee maker in the box labeled 'Holy Water Container'.
I mean, they're not WRONG, but... πŸ˜†

Next Sunday (not tomorrow), our #Church family is holding its last Sunday service in the building. The mortgage was never paid off, so it was never consecrated. So we can't DECONSECRATE it, but we're making this transition with a service of Thanksgiving.

I've realized that we're going to #KonMarie the Church: thank it, and let it go.

For those interested in my #Church's story of becoming a #ChurchOnTheMove, here's some semi-official details beyond the more personal reflections I've shared and will share on Mastodon...

I Am Doing a New Thing... Do You Not Perceive It?

One of the problems with doing a β€˜new thing’ is when it is not recognized, or even perceived. As nearly every parish in the diocese is struggling with finances, demographics, and overall sustainability, the Parish of St. Michael and All Angels is bucking trends in our approach to setting a new vision. Instead of considering options to share clergy with another parish, we are looking for ways to share a building with another congregation, without having to cut staff. At a time when we need to tal
