Abandoned places of empire

In the Emergent Africa blog Carl Brook wonders about one of the twelve marks of a new monasticism, which is relocation to the abandoned places of empire. What does it mean, and what does “emp…

Last Sunday after the Divine Liturgy our parish had its Annual General Meeting, where various people reported on the state of the parish. There were the usual kinds of things at such meetings for a…

I got this week's message uploaded in record time! If you're a sermon-listen-toer then this is right up your alley. I'd be honored if you spent some time listening to me talk about Persons of Peace from Acts 16:6-40. This might be a sermon that is of interest to folks interested in #Missional #Church.

For those wondering what's been going on with our #ChurchOnTheMove, here's an update. The sale of the church BUILDING went through, and closed yesterday. The CHURCH, on the other hand, has been gathering to worship in our Cathedral on Sunday afternoons. We've lost some people, yes. But the people who ARE there on Sundays are excited and joyful, and are the ones who really WANT to be in church.

And even more excitingly, since we no longer have to worry about snowclearing and maintenance issues, we've seen a noticable increase in generosity towards outward-focused, #missional projects. Last week, we realized we were able to contribute an extra 40% over budget towards feeding the hungry!

Restoring Missional Vision in Theological Education - Lausanne Movement

At the outset I want to stress that I believe in scholarship, but with a purpose. I am reminded of my spiritual mentor Dr John Stott’s vision of ‘scholar saints’. I also believe in an ‘and . . . also’ rather than an ‘either . . . or’ way of looking at realities. This analysis…
