Question: Feditips indicates it's probably not the best move to just stay on mastodon.social forever, but I'm a little leery of moving, since I'm semi-technical, but unsure if I'm technical enough to successfully shift without having to start all over again. Have any of my semi-technical associates made the move without issues? Also, any recommendations on good servers?

I had to change servers because my old server went into a tailspin. It is easy, and I was able to keep followers, following, bookmarks, etc. The procedure is straightforward and well-documented and takes just minutes.

Just a quick post on my experience changing servers. It was pretty painless though not exactly one-click.

Account follows/following all worked as expected.

Your posts aren't migrated, so you start with an empty timeline.

I couldn't see a way to move followed hashtags so I had to manually refollow.

So perfectly doable but you wouldn't want to do it very often.
