A ★★★★ review of The Shrouds (2024)
Only true lovers will understand. Quite different from what I expected from the trailer (I guess a slow-burning horror mystery.) A calm film about grief, death and technology...and horniness. In a way, it rebuilds some of the ideas from Consumed, in a slightly more acceptable manner (you still can go much farther in literature.) Inescapably, there's a real and very honest sadness here, given Cronenberg's personal life, but the film does feel like a vessel for thought-provoking ideas. Thinking back, I don't think Cronenberg really is a great finisher, often opting for a circular closing. Here, he chooses to go
