My daughter just turned 9. She’s 16% of the way thru 8th grade math, studying high school physics, and debating philosophy. She recently argued that people shouldn’t think of punishment as good. It impoverishes everyone. I’m so proud of her. She recently faulted the word supernatural for having nothing to do with nature saying “it’s more like supermystical.”

Progress rarely announces itself with fanfare.
It happens quietly, one choice, one kindness, one act of courage at a time.

This week, trust the gentle momentum of good will.
Let patience and compassion do their quiet work.

I’m geeking out over this year’s Nobel Prize in Economics: Mokyr, Aghion & Howitt!
I’m especially thrilled about Joël Mokyr, honored for showing how cultures of curiosity and openness make sustained progress possible.

His work has real metaphysical depth; it’s about how belief in knowledge itself can reshape the world.

Hope doesn’t have to feel bright to be real.
Sometimes it’s quiet,
a choice to keep moving when results haven’t arrived.

Progress rarely looks like progress up close.
But patience compounds.
Resilience accrues interest.

Keep investing.

Freedom isn’t a lightning strike.
It’s a skill honed through feedback, failure, and renewal.

Each week is another rehearsal in adaptation:
learning when to hold steady, when to pivot,
and how to turn uncertainty into momentum.

Autonomy grows through practice.
So does purpose.

Optimism isn’t naïve.
It’s practical.

In hard times, pessimism paralyzes—blinding us to how far we’ve come, even through worse struggles.
Optimism fuels resilience, rewards diverse investment, and opens eyes.

Hope is not denial—it’s strategy.
It’s how free will finds its footing and wealth universalizes.

In 1847, Ignaz Semmelweis found the insight that disinfectant handwashing could save mothers from childbed fever.

He later revealed the excitement he felt from his vacation to see the great art of Venice prepared him for the sorrow of losing his colleague Prof. Kolletschka — whose tragic, revelatory death showed him the cause.

Beauty gave him strength for truth.

🌈 Today is Bisexual Visibility Day 🌈

We are the largest part of the LGBTQ+ community, yet so often unseen.
But visibility provides support: the space to be, to love, to desire without constraint.

Concupiscere—motivational desire at the root of our humanity—reminds us that joy and longing are not flaws but sparks of growth. Today I honor that spark in myself and in us all.

🍂 Today is the autumnal equinox—equal day and night, balance of light and shadow.

It reminds us freedom is not found in extremes of order or chaos, but in the space between. Like the seasons, autonomy thrives in transition—in the ability to adapt, create, and turn change into opportunity.

This equinox, I celebrate the rhythm of balance: the gift of stability, the spark of uncertainty, and the free will we cultivate at their edge.

Transitions are hard.
Last week I shared my first preprint, and now I pivot back to expanding Beyond Survival.

The in-between can feel like drift—yet it’s also concupiscere at work: desire pulling us forward, shaping what comes next.

Waiting isn’t wasted. It’s longing turned into preparation, the breath before the leap.
