Masking situation: Office staff were in surgical masks. Patients in the waiting room were not asked to wear masks but most did (all of those who didn’t were men 🙄), and mostly respirators. The hygienist wore a black KN95. The dentist wore—get this—THE SAME ELASTOMERIC I WEAR (a #breathe2 by Prescientx)! /6

Update on the #Prescientx #BreatheMask #Breathe2 issue: customer service got back to me very quickly and are sending a replacement because they have a 1-year warranty.

Still annoyed because 7 months is really short and it's the mask that was worn the most (maximum an hour or two per week; we don't get out much), but hey, at least we're going to have another 7 months' worth (or more, hopefully 🤞 ) of use. I'm hoping this was just a faulty one-off because a lot of other people seem to have no issues with theirs, but I'm putting it out there just in case.

Can I nominate myself? I wear a #breathe2 elastomeric! Here’s my entry to win one of the T-shirts. 😀

@[email protected] Who would you like to nominate as an ultra-hottie in an N95 or better for the Tshirt giveaway? I'm going to make a femme fit shirt in the very near future. Everyone: The QR on the Tshirt links to a bibliography of scientific lit on covid’s impact on erectile function. Covid attacks the vascular system so Covid Shrinks D!cks My buddy wore this to wk & there was lots of embarrassed laughter & teasing. 2 wks later they’d installed MERV 13. Positive change! https://bit.ly/436tkZJ

@Gdac have you considered an elastomeric? That’s the kind I wear—it has a synthetic or natural rubber seal and that’s a lot more secure of a fit. I wear the #breathe2 but the #FloMask is another alternative.

@luvcie I make them, but just for myself. The technique is super easy, though, and I'd be happy to help you source the supplies! The only "hard" part (which isn't that hard) is sewing some good stitches into the elastic band around the housing so that it stays on.

Do you wear an elastomeric? If so, what kind? Mine is a #breathe2 by #PrescientX, but I think you could do it with a #FloMask too.

@WearsHats @elana it’s a regular #breathe2 elastomeric respirator by Prescientx (@Barryhunt008 is the maker) decorated by me in various ways. I don’t sell the decorations but they’re easy and I’d be happy to offer advice!
@Kuri I wear my #breathe2 to work instead of the #FloMask ("because earloops" is the shortform reason), but it's also an elastomeric, and you're right, when it's colder out I definitely get more condensation, and sometimes it's annoying. I mostly solved the issue by making sure to take it off and "air it out" during the time that I'm walking between the train and my office building, but it's not quite long enough a walk to air it out enough on very cold days. (Thankfully not an issue right now.)
@Geoffberner @Larhanya @rchusid @sofiav The rare exception: elastomerics with earloops (like the #breathe1 or #breathe2 or #NanoMask by @prescientx1. The 'elastomeric' aspect keeps the seal excellent despite the earloops.
@nothingtoseehere I'm not sure about the #breathe2 being returnable--maybe check it out on the Prescientx website? Or even email them? If you do decide to go with a breathe2, my advice is to measure as they suggest but always err on getting a smaller mask (because the bigger-size masks are REALLY quite big).
@DayWalkingRedhead @nothingtoseehere @novid I mostly wear my #breathe2 #elastomeric these days, but I also own a #FloMask and like it a lot! The Everyday filter is indeed more breathable, so it's worthwhile to gauge what kind of protection you need in different situations (I wear Everyday if I know the ventilation is going to be decent, for example). There are also great decals by @Nickelpin that you can use to decorate a Flo--they look super cool!
