The Pediocactus simpsonii (Simpson's hedgehog cactus/Mountain ball cactus) are starting to flower in the Front Range foothills of Colorado. This is one of my favorite cactus species. The flower color is such a vibrant pink! #botany #cactus #botanizing #Colorado #plants #naturephotography

Botanizing is a great way to engage with life around you

Our planet has nearly 300,000 species of flowering plants. Among animals, only beetles can compete with that number.

I got to meet western poison ivy today, Toxicodendron rydbergii. I haven't seen it before so I got very close for pictures and used iNat and the internet to ID it later. I used to grow a relative of it in my apartment for funsies, Toxicodendron diversilobum, poison oak. So maybe I'll grow this too 😈 though you can develop a negative reaction over time, so maybe not. But also maybe. #plants #botanizing
