The Borgward Hansa 1500 is a medium-sized automobile manufactured by the Bremen based auto-manufacturer Carl F. W. Borgward GmbH from 1949 until 1954. It was first presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1949 [4] and production commenced on 13 October 1949.[5] The similar Hansa 1800 was introduced in 1952. The Hansa was replaced by the Borgward Isabella in 1954....

David WilkinsBorgward went bust in 1961 but there is a happy ending to the story. The factory in Bremen was acquired by the van-maker Hanomag, later Hanomag-Henschel. This was later taken over by Mercedes, which produced its popular T1 van there. In 1978, passenger car production returned to the site with the S123 ‘T’ estate models based on the W123. I saw this 1.3 million km example at Techno Classica Essen in 2013. Tough cars.
Today, the Borgward P100, the ‘Big Borgward’. This top-of-the-range model was introduced in 1959, and only about 2,500 were made before Borgward went out of business in 1961. The main highlights were its straight-six engine and the pioneering use of air suspension. I saw this one at Techno Classica Essen in 2013.
