"Not sure if I can say this onscreen. But lights over helmets"

Yes you can say it! Bike lights are more important than bike helmets. So are a lot of other things: 30 kph speed limits, bike paths, bike training, driver visibility out of truck cabs, etc

Lumos, the company that makes my bike helmet with built-in lights, has a new model coming that looks super cool.

It has lights, though they are more subtle. Instead, the entire helmet is basically a canvas where you can add a custom design. Dang, if I hadn't recently upgraded my helmet I'd be all over this.

😞 15yo victim riding on the left-side sidewalk (as one would, given the traffic Engineer's design of one-way painted bike gutters on each edge of a 5-lane stroad)

Might have just slow-rolled from behind a building, drivers definitely rolling 5mph past the stop sign while looking left for cars. This is NOT #BikeHelmets or #eBikes, it's a failure of #trafficEngineers' design & leadership to demand that typical aren't-we-all #drivers behavior doesn't risk murdering kids.

Opinion: Let's have the right conversations after tragic Bend e-bike death

Let's embrace these bikes, and not let our penchant for finger-wagging and othering squander this opportunity to get kids outside.

🙄 love how every emergency room doctor thinks #bikeHelmets are the cure to people on bikes getting hit with cars (I mean yes discouraging people from riding bikes may save some people from crashes, but then they die of sedentary, and more people die in car crashes overall because there's even more cars everywhere thanks in part to doctors who can't see infrastructure.)

@[email protected] Hi Agua, As I mentioned. I have no idea what happened here. Did the driver hit the biker in the bike lane? Did the e-bike accidentally cut in front of the van or try to zoom past it as I describe happened to Meg in my article? Have no earthly idea, but I did write this piece before this fatality ever happened. And there are many others, even pedestrians who have been killed/injured by e-bikes. Have a look at the piece—I do think we should have mandated helmets & more 1/2

Never let your government get away with claiming that #bikeHelmets are "the first rule of bike safety".

Rule number one is infrastructure, and the 2nd is air+brakes+chain mechanical soundness of the bike, upright geometry of the bike, traffic awareness, ride with fingers on your brake levers and having practiced emergency stops, twenty is plenty... Helmets are for stunts or a footnote to "don't fall on your head" rule that applies to walking moreso than biking.
