Did anyone watch the latest episode of #beechgrove and was disgusted like me by Calum lining his raspberry trench with treated, poisonous timber buried in the soil?
@hicksy2
My favourite gardening programme on TV is #GardeningAustralia
- Since my wife and I try not to fly any more, it reminds me of goods times in the past travelling there.
- They have a hands on attitude and build things from scrap.
A pity though, that #ABC stopped the free distribution of the show on the internet recently.
What do you like best about #Beechgrove?
I struggle a bit with their extremely conservative attitude.
E.g. for how long they insisted on peat in potting mixes. Or how they did a #NoDig trial years ago. No dig came out best, but Carole disregarded the results as valid, as they did not test on every possible soil type.
When I started watching #GardenersWorld, Toby was head presenter and Alys Fowler was there. I loved it. Then Monty came back and I never really warmed to the change.
Doesn't really matter anyway, as the BBC took the SD channels off the satellite beginning of this year and I can hardly receive HD channels around here. With a bit of luck reception is good enough for the Sunday rerun of the programmes.
Usually, I keep the recording of Beechgrove for last, @BroadforkForVictory
After exotic flair from Australia and lush green and plump fruit&veg from the south-west of England, the veg at #Beechgrove looks as tiny and flimsy as my own. It makes me feel less inadequate as a gardener. π
#GardeningAustralia is available on the ABC website https://www.abc.net.au/gardening/episodes But since they seem to move it into iPlayer (i.e. behind a geo-fence), who knows for how much longer it will be available overseas.
Gardening Australia is the ABCs premiere TV gardening program. It's presented by leading Australian horticulturalists including Costa Georgiadis, Josh Byrne, Tino Carnevale, Jerry Coleby-Williams, Jane Edmanson, Sophie Thomson and Millie Ross. It's a valuable resource for all gardeners and can also be found in magazines, books, DVDs, on iview and online.
