Aw Monty has done the family friendly version of the soil temperature test. The old English farmer test was if you could drop your trousers and sit bare bummed on the soil! #GardenersWorld

Not every apple tree in the UK are grafted. I suspect there's quite a lot of genetically random trees grown from seed (usually the big ones you see alongside old roads and railway lines where apple cores have been thrown away). #GardenersWorld
