The jewel in the Okanagan Valley's crown, the arrow-leaved balsam root. These beauties cover the mountain slopes and higher fields in bright yellow during the spring. We have lots of mountain wildflowers around here but these are the bread and butter.

Their tubers were an important food source for local indigenous populations, too. They were intentionally cultivated which could help to explain their abundance.
