An ice storm arrives this afternoon, starting out as a wintry mix, but transitioning to mostly sleet and freezing rain by late evening. Freezing rain will persist across most of the area through Sunday. Graphic above shows the latest forecast ice totals.

Ice and sleet covered roadways will become treacherous and impassable. Widespread power outages are likely due to the weight of the ice and snow on tree limbs and power lines. Power outages could last for several days in some areas.
