- Instead of bare gravel or closely mown grass, panels were raised higher off the ground, leaving room underneath for something to #grow

Then the builders did something unusual:

They carefully chose #native grasses, #wildflowers planting them under & around the rows, hoping to rebuild habitat that used to be there & to hold the #soil & #water in place. It was the sort of thing that rarely survives an engineering plan

I was walking along a hiking trail yesterday, and found that a pretty good length of the trail was lined with what I thought was white pepper weed, in full bloom. I thought oh how pretty, even noxious weed can be gorgeous when they are so full. I looked at the photos just now, and I don't think they are white pepper weeds... I think they are poison hemlocks. A massive forest of hemlocks ☠️ 😰 Glad I didn't touch it.
