The characters in my play making fun of a Cole Porter tune:
OLYA: How are you all today?
SCAPE: Alright.
(Nicole & Grace act out each line)
NICOLE: I'm fresh as a daisy!
GRACE: Wait... Hard. Hard as a squash!
NICOLE: Fit as a worm-riddled...
SCAPE: Oyster?
NICOLE: Ostrich!
GRACE: Proud as a eyelash.
OLYA: We do have ostrich today, and it is certainly not worm-riddled!
NICOLE: Bright as a coalmine,
GRACE: Sly as a fiddle.
SCAPE: Ostrich? Really?
NICOLE: Shy as a stripper,
GRACE: Strong as a moth.
OLYA: I'm not swearing it's real ostrich, but you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference.
NICOLE: Light as an anvil,
GRACE: Blind as an archer.
NICOLE: Mad as an analyst,
GRACE: Nervous as a brick.
SCAPE: Brick?
GRACE: Brick.
OLYA: Please just finish the song.
NICOLE: Sweet as a lemon,
GRACE: Pure as a cop.
SCAPE: HA!
OLYA: No editorials!
NICOLE: That means, Mister,
ALL FOUR: I'm in love!!!!
OLYA: A simple "fine" would suffice. And be quicker.
GRACE: You underestimate life, Olya.
OLYA: I do not ignore the important things in life.
GRACE: Not the important things. Just being alive. Breathing!
OLYA: You get used to it after a few decades.
SCAPE: Ouch.
NICOLE: I want to be you when I grow up.
OLYA: Do you want to eat, or shall I just throw you out?
NICOLE: Sorry, sorry. Mash and stammers please.
GRACE: I'll have the dead fish.
SCAPE: Whatever the fake ostrich dish is.
OLYA: Five minutes.
(Olya heads for kitchen)
