Last night I randomly decided to fire up Aven Colony again. I haven’t played it in a while, and I wanted to check in on my space colony. “Checking in” turned into two hours of getting back into the flow and starting some more expansions of the settlement… And today I just dumped another two to three hours (so far) into adjusting to the growing pains of my colony, which now has a population of over a thousand.
Aven Colony is really fun as a SimCity type game, between the sci-fi setting and surprisingly little micromanagement needed. Many tasks are either automated to begin with or can be set to be in the rules for your colony. So even when things ramp up, like three threats coming in at the same time, the game pace is still mostly chill.
And I am very much reminded of how much of a time sink Aven Colony is. It’s fun, but twenty minutes becomes two hours before you know it.
