Disable all auto-mounting features for external drives

#AutoMount #DataLeak #USBsecurity

Anyone familiar with #autofs and the --ghost option? Seems it was removed in recent releases, but I would like to restore that behavior. Thanks a lot for any hint!

#linux #automount

HA! OK this is rich :)

I decided to take a quick swing at this after work.

I'd forgotten that, in order to #automount CIFS shares (which you should TOTALLY set up if you have a NAS and don't want/need NFS BTW. Super easy on #linux) you put your NAS user's credentials in /etc/creds/nas_hostname.

The other day, because Twillio shut down Authy and stranded my 2FA codes I'd had on that service, I had to hit the auth RESET button on said NAS and change the admin password.

BAM BAM BAAAAAMP.

No wonder all my shared were failing to mount/access properly! :)

Updated password and all is well.

Gotta love ending the day with a quick personal #technolgy win :)

This "ez-dock" is not so easy - in fact I think it is #DOA. Been #troubleshooting this issue all weekend where the doc and the drive were not accessible.

The Unknown, new to me #PCMCIA/ pc card that has no #windoz10 drivers - Silicon Image SiI #3512 serial ATA controller providing two #eSATA ports that I was hoping to use for hard drive testing.

Took it as an opportunity to throw #Linux on this #t43 #ibm #thinkpad - decided on #MX running #fluxbox which seems to run rather well on this #vintagehardware and limited #RAM

Initially the eSATA card would light up, then would go dark with no visibility onto the drive media. Figured out how to configure #automount and tested with a different drive dock - and we have success! Confirmed the #pcmcia card works, and this other #unitek drive dock works! 😸

Tried the ez-dock via #USB and still no joy. Such a finicky #pos

No, the post's subject is a series of things they've made since. Yes, I said things. I said it and

however, just found out #automount of #SSHFS can be just a laugh thanks to #systemd.

The more I understand the more I want to thank @pid_eins for this #systemd stuff.

#systemd is like #IPv6: Looks complicated at first glance and the closer you come the more it is GREAT: #structured, #logical, #reasonable, quite simple and you NEVER want to go back to #legacy !

Thanks folks! Appreciate it.

When a #network #share in #fstab won't #automount on boot in #alpineLinux, here you go.

rc-update add netmount boot

#linux #alpine

Playing around with #automount on #opensuse: Made a nice setup with /home/user automounted. Using a few tricks like replace ~/.cache and ~/.local with a link to the local disk, makes even something like #kde work smooth.
Only quirks seen so far is #kate editor is slow to start and #firefox displaying the "long time no seen" message at every launch.
