Updated my #Fluxbox #DockApps page. Several updates, plus new fluxBattery and fluxClipboard. Also created web versions for those who don't use one of the *boxes.

A few weeks of #k12 #education work left, then going to focus on my neoFlux #WindowManager.

the first version of the clipboard manager is working. contexts work well, make it easy to separate don't-need-this-again clips from definitely-will-come-back-to-this clips without searching through hundreds of entries. Next up is adding the secret, deleted-after-x-seconds clips.

working on a clipboard manager with various 'contexts' so that one-off copies don't pollute my clipboard history with stuff i'll never need again.

Also, I've added hidden desktops to my #NeoFlux #WindowManager project design. Can't get started on it until I have summer break time, but working on the design docs now. Hidden desktops are only accessible through keyboard shortcuts; they and their windows do not show up in window lists. Is there real use to these? Not sure.

Next up:

* update my websites. have lots of content that is waiting.

* maybe #VibeCode a #Fluxbox replacement? I love Fluxbox, have been on it for years, but like the #WindowMaker #Dockapps, it is pretty much finished, and I worry it will eventually be unmaintained. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any similar stacking window managers. Of course, vibecoding an x11 window manager --- what could possibly go wrong? (Everything. Everything could go wrong.) So, we'll see how that goes.

MX Linux 25.2 Beta 1 brings new text installer and important fixes

https://fed.brid.gy/r/https://nerds.xyz/2026/05/mx-linux-25-2-beta-1-text-installer/

After some months, I am finally coming back from #fluxbox to #bspwm, which is way more comfy for my use case, perhaps.

Not a critic.

I just remarked, seeing this post, that it is been years I no longer use any desktop short cut. Not a single one.

I think it started with fluxbox, then xmonad, and I have kept the habit on gnome.

I prefer have a terminal centered workflow. And multitude of adapted pre-mashed terminal environements. Even if it launches a GUI in the end.

I find desktop shortcuts super messy.

And it alters the beauty of my desktop background images: it was probably the first reason I started this with #fluxbox

Here is MX Linux - fluxbox edition - on an HP EliteDesk 800 G3 mini

You can tell from a detail in the screenshot which init system this install has.

Starting in May 2026, I will be giving away a computer every week to a randomly drawn subscriber of my email newsletter.

#Openbox ?#Fluxbox ? or #MATE? for a desktop environment and why?

Love to hear opinions?

#TIL that the style of design from the Vista / 7 era of WIndows has a (retroactive) name: Frutiger Aero

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frutiger_Aero

When you look at those "glassy" window decorations and icons, know that's what Frutiger Aero is all about.

(ironically, I didn't even bother with KDE4 back then, which was right around my beginnings with Linux)

More info: https://frutigeraeroarchive.org/history

Now, if only I could find such a theme to fit #Fluxbox!...
