Australian Wine Open For Adventure Tasting 2024 – MyWinePal

New Australian wine has arrived on our shores after a hiatus, in part due to COVID.  I attended a tasting of these new arrivals.  Some are new to BC while other wines are new vintages of wines that we already enjoy.  I missed out on a seminar, so have no additional pearls of wisdom for you, but here are my tasting notes for the wines that I enjoyed the most.

Another night, another aged McLaren Vale Shiraz. I recall this 2010 Warboys being quite tannic on release, but this was broad and supple, with lots of vanilla framing blueberry and boysenberry fruit. Plenty of runway left…

For today’ lunch at home I chose “19 Crimes” Australian #Chardonnay from 2021. I was surprised discovering that label offers #AugmentedReality experience, presenting the story of a person shown on that label.
I wish more wineries could offer such features on their bottles.

Tonight’s Aussie cellar dweller: the 2012 Chertsey from @penleyestate is oaky, with mocha and cedar over herbal, leafy notes and hints of cherry tomato, cassis, and dark chocolate. Full-bodied and velvety, it seems to have plenty of life ahead of it. Liked it, didn’t love it. The blend is 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, and 14% Cabernet Franc.

Did a bit of reorganizing in the cellar this weekend and came across this Cape Barren McLaren Vale Shiraz, a great pairing with strip steak. Meaty and savory, but also black cherries and spice, supple and expansive 10 years after the vintage. #wine #aussiewine #shiraz
