BeaDa der Asiatische Marienkäfer einen großen Appetit auf Blattläuse hat, wurde er seit den 80er Jahren im großen Stil zur biologischen Schädlingsbekämpfung eingesetzt. Der heimische Marienkäfer frisst rund 50 Blattläuse am Tag, der Asiatische Marienkäfer schafft locker das Fünffache. Pro Jahr zeugt der Asiatische Marienkäfer mindestens zwei neue Generationen, stimmt die Witterung und das Nahrungsangebot auch drei bis vier. Der Siebenpunkt zeigt hingegen nur eine Generation pro Jahr. Herrscht ein Mangel an Blattläusen stellt der Käfer schnell auf andere Beute um und verspeist Eier und Raupen von Schmetterlingen und Gallmücken, aber auch die anderer oder der eigenen Marienkäferart.
