Dennis Baretta è medaglia di bronzo agli Europei di Taekwondo 2026. L'azzurro chiude al terzo posto nella categoria -68 kg maschile al termine di una giornata che lo ha visto protagonista dal primo combattimento fino alla semifinale, persa contro il turco Berkay Erer.
Baretta ha aperto il suo Europeo ai sedicesimi superando il lussemburghese Sekou Coulybaly, per poi conquistare gli ottavi battendo il tedesco Emre Cavusman. Ai quarti l'azzurro ha firmato la prova che è valsa la medaglia: contro l'ungherese Levente Mark Jozsa è 2-1 al termine di un combattimento equilibrato, con il round decisivo gestito con lucidità e ritmo crescente.
In semifinale, contro il turco Erer, Baretta ha ceduto 0-2, centrando comunque il bronzo, prima medaglia azzurra di questi Campionati Europei.
Nella stessa giornata sono usciti dal tabellone gli altri azzurri impegnati: Elisa Bertagnin nei -46 kg femminili, sconfitta agli ottavi da Rivka Bayech (Israele); Giulia Maggiore nei -67 kg femminili, fermata ai quarti dalla montenegrina Andrea Berisaj dopo aver superato i due turni precedenti; Mattia Molin nei +87 kg, fuori agli ottavi. Nel para taekwondo, Suemi Ricci si è arresa nei -47 kg K44 alla francese Zakia Khudadadi, campionessa paralimpica in carica.
Il bronzo di Baretta apre il bilancio italiano agli Europei di Monaco, ultima grande tappa continentale prima del Roma Grand Prix in programma a giugno al Foro Italico.
Domani torneranno sul tatami quattro azzurri: Abderrahman Touiar nei -58 kg e Emanuele Vittorio Maturo nei -80 kg per il settore senior maschile, Anna Frassica nei -53 kg per il femminile.

Dennis Baretta is a bronze medalist at the 2026 European Taekwondo Championships. The Italian closes in third place in the -68 kg men's category after a day that saw him as a protagonist from the first fight to the semi-final, lost to the Turkish Berkay Erer.
Baretta opened his European Championships in the round of 16 by defeating the Luxemburger Sekou Coulybaly, before winning the eighths by defeating the German Emre Cavusman. In the quarters, the Italian signed the performance that earned him the medal: against the Hungarian Levente Mark Jozsa it was 2-1 at the end of a balanced fight, with the decisive round managed with clarity and increasing rhythm.
In the semi-final, against the Turkish Erer, Baretta conceded 0-2, but still secured bronze, Italy’s first gold medal at these European Championships.
On the same day, the other Italian athletes involved were eliminated from the bracket: Elisa Bertagnin in -46 kg women’s, defeated in the eighths by Rivka Bayech (Israel); Giulia Maggiore in -67 kg women’s, stopped in the quarters by the Montenegrin Andrea Berisaj after having overcome the previous two rounds; Mattia Molin in +87 kg, out in the eighths. In para taekwondo, Suemi Ricci surrendered to the French Zakia Khudadadi in -47 kg K44, the current Paralympic champion.
Baretta’s bronze opens Italy’s balance at the Monaco European Championships, the last major continental stop before the Rome Grand Prix scheduled for June at the Foro Italico.
Tomorrow, four Italian athletes will return to the mat: Abderrahman Touiar in -58 kg and Emanuele Vittorio Maturo in -80 kg for the senior men’s sector, and Anna Frassica in -53 kg for the women’s.
