Dennis Baretta è medaglia di bronzo agli Europei di Taekwondo 2026. L'azzurro chiude al terzo posto nella categoria -68 kg maschile al termine di una giornata che lo ha visto protagonista dal primo combattimento fino alla semifinale, persa contro il turco Berkay Erer.
Baretta ha aperto il suo Europeo ai sedicesimi superando il lussemburghese Sekou Coulybaly, per poi conquistare gli ottavi battendo il tedesco Emre Cavusman. Ai quarti l'azzurro ha firmato la prova che è valsa la medaglia: contro l'ungherese Levente Mark Jozsa è 2-1 al termine di un combattimento equilibrato, con il round decisivo gestito con lucidità e ritmo crescente.
In semifinale, contro il turco Erer, Baretta ha ceduto 0-2, centrando comunque il bronzo, prima medaglia azzurra di questi Campionati Europei.

Il bronzo di Baretta apre il bilancio italiano agli Europei di Monaco, ultima grande tappa continentale prima del Roma Grand Prix in programma a giugno al Foro Italico.

In para taekwondo, Suemi Ricci surrendered to the French Zakia Khudadadi in -47 kg K44, the current Paralympic champion.

Baretta’s bronze opens Italy’s balance at the Monaco European Championships, the last major continental stop before the Rome Grand Prix scheduled for June at the Foro Italico.

Tomorrow, four Italian athletes will return to the mat: Abderrahman Touiar in -58 kg and Emanuele Vittorio Maturo in -80 kg for the senior men’s sector, and Anna Frassica in -53 kg for the women’s.

“Il capitano disse che era suo triste dovere informarci che un passeggero era deceduto la notte precedente per cause naturali, cosa che ora sappiamo essere errata, e che il medico aveva affermato che non si trattava di una malattia contagiosa e che la nave era sicura”. È il racconto del documentarista e youtuber turco Ruhi Çenet, che in un’intervista al Daily Mail ha ripercorso quanto accaduto a bordo della MV Hondius. L’imbarcazione è finita al centro dell’attenzione internazionale dopo essere stata identificata comefocolaio di Hantavirus: secondo quanto riferito dall’OMS, il bilancio è di tre morti e cinque contagiati. Intanto, mentre la nave si prepara ad attraccare a Tenerife il 10 maggio, è scattata una corsa globale al tracciamento di tutte le persone entrate in contatto con i passeggeri sbarcati durante il viaggio.
La testimonianza di chi era a bordo
Nella testimonianza resa al giornale britannico, Çenet ricorda come tutti i passeggeri si siano precipitati a consolare la vedova del 70enne olandese morto l’11 aprile, ignari del fatto che l’uomo fosse morto a causa di un virus letale di cui anche lei era portatrice. “Tutti provavano molta compassione per lei. La abbracciavano e le parlavano”, ha raccontato. “Ci chiamava i suoi angeli custodi”. Sebbene colpiti dalla notizia, i passeggeri hanno continuato la propria vita a bordo in un clima di apparente serenità:“Mangiavamo e bevevamo insieme, andavamo al buffet. Nessuno aveva idea che questo virus stesse circolando tra i passeggeri”. La prima tappa della crociera si sarebbe conclusa il 24 aprile a Sant’Elena, dove circa 30 passeggeri provenienti da 12 Paesi erano pronti a sbarcare per rientrare a casa in aereo. Tra loro anche Ruhi Çenet e la moglie della prima vittima, che però appariva già debilitata. “Ricordo che il giorno in cui siamo sbarcati faceva fatica a camminare”. La donna sarebbe morta due giorni più tardi, dopo il trasferimento in aereo in un ospedale di Johannesburg.

The captain said it was his sad duty to inform us that a passenger had died the previous night due to natural causes, something we now know was incorrect, and that the doctor had stated it wasn’t a contagious illness and that the ship was safe. It is the account of documentary filmmaker and Turkish YouTuber Ruhi Çenet, who recounted what happened on board the MV Hondius in an interview with the Daily Mail. The vessel became the center of international attention after being identified as a source of Hantavirus: according to the WHO, the death toll is three and five infections. Meanwhile, as the ship prepares to dock in Tenerife on May 10th, a global search is underway to trace everyone who came into contact with the passengers disembarked during the voyage.

The Testimony of Those on Board

In the statement made to the British newspaper, Çenet recalls how all the passengers rushed to console the widow of the 70-year-old Dutch man who died on April 11th, unaware that he had died from a lethal virus of which she was also a carrier. “Everyone felt a great deal of compassion for her. They embraced her and talked to her,” he said. “They called us their guardian angels.” Despite being struck by the news, the passengers continued their lives aboard in an apparent atmosphere of serenity: “We ate and drank together, went to the buffet. No one had any idea that this virus was circulating among the passengers.” The first leg of the cruise would end on April 24th in St. Helena, where about 30 passengers from 12 countries were ready to disembark to return home by plane. Among them was Ruhi Çenet and the wife of the first victim, who however already appeared weakened. “I remember that the day we disembarked she had difficulty walking.” The woman would die two days later, after being transferred by plane to a hospital in Johannesburg.
