“I’ve heard people say ‘before Indian Wells he hadn’t won any tournaments.’ But he’s played two, stop interrupting!”: Roddick explodes and defends Sinner.

“I want to analyze the Sinner topic and insist on the fact that after two or three years of matches, when he loses to the most successful tennis player of all time and another random match, we ask: ‘Ohhh, is he in crisis?’. Stop, stop!”. Andy Roddick is speaking, during his now-known podcast “Serve with Andy”, which is broadcast on Youtube. The former US tennis player spoke about Jannik Sinner and his moment after winning the final in Indian Wells against Daniil Medvedev. A victory that allowed the Alto Adigener to win his first tournament of 2026.

“There’s nothing wrong with Jannik Sinner. We said it last week and we’ll say it again this week, but you’ll say it for Alcaraz too. I read somewhere that he hadn’t won any tournaments in 2026 before Indian Wells. But he’d played two, we’re in March,” Roddick exclaims, emphasizing that there was no special Sinner case. There had been talk of a Sinner in crisis, who had lost motivation and leg, as well as power. The Italian responded on the court: returning to grind results and winning at Indian Wells without too many problems in the final against a top-form Medvedev.

Sinner’s 2026 hadn’t started very well. The world number 2 had unexpectedly lost in the semi-finals against Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open and then in the quarter-finals at Doha, in an ATP 500, against Jakub Mensik, causing concern among fans and supporters. The expected answers arrived at Indian Wells, where Sinner “crushed” his opponents and won the tournament for the first time in his career. He now seeks to repeat the feat in Miami. It’s a period in which the Italian can push himself to the maximum and earn as many points as possible, considering that in 2025 he had been suspended by WADA for the Clostebol case and therefore will not have points to defend until the Italian Open. It's the perfect opportunity to get closer to the top of the rankings.
