Recruited some new #Latin students today in grade 6, advertised a brand-new course on #AncMedReception for grade 12 *and* produced another completely new exam for my 9th-graders on Augustus. Fessus sum. 😴
... like the "ius primae noctis" (just the term is Latin doesn't mean it's Roman, right?), cruxifiction to telephone/electric poles as punishment, caricatures of imperial armor, etc. When the Ghoul started rambling about the Ship of Theseus in the very same episode I nearly lost it. Also it was refreshing to see that Lucy McLean was obviously pretty well schooled in Vault 33. (Bonus points for Macaulay Culkin as an officer of the Legio.) #AncMedReception

It seems a new wave of antiquity-related media is surging. Not only was a new season of the animated tv series #BloodOfZeus released this summer, but Nintendo also finally announced the long anticipated #Hades2. Plus: the next installment of the #FireEmblem game series, #FortunesWeave, seems very much inspired by gladiatorial games and an ancient Hellenistic themes. Finally, Paizo's latest Adventure Path for #Pathfinder2e is Ancient Greece-themed and called #MythSpeaker. #AncMedReception
I actively ignored #Gladiator2 (USA/UK 2024, Ridley Scott) when it was released to cinemas last year, but of course I couldn't possibly avoid it forever. The majority of reviewers make it very clear that noone should watch this movie thinking it is somewhat historic, else it would be no fun at all due to numerous anachronisms. Which is even more reason to study it for Scotts artistic take on #AncMedReception, e.g. what is important for him and which themes allure to the viewers? #AncientHistory

Okay, let's try this again. I did not use this account for about nineteen months - because actually there didn't happen a lot in terms of me reading or otherwise focusing on #AncientHistory or #AncMedReception. I obviously needed a break.

Nevertheless I read @rickriordan 's first two new installments of the #PercyJackson franchise ("The Chalice of the Gods", "The Triple-Headed Goddess"), watched the new PJ.-TV-series, a new #Asterix came out ("The White Iris"), #Domina got a 2nd season ... 1/n

Logged into the dead birdsite and was reminded of this gem. 100/10 for chapter title, no notes.
Alexander the Gay would be a great title for a historical fiction series of erotic shorts 👌

I'm planning to spend the rest of my #NewYear's week off work just like Venus-Aphrodite in this #neoclassical painting. What about you?
