Time for fungi to abound!

I'm thinking this is a suillis ("slippery Jack")- what do u folks think?

Definitely a polypore. Didn't have time to check for details, but it's in my front yard so I can look again. (No idea how to do spore prints etc and I don't care that much I'm just curious). Unlike the slug I'm not interested in tasting them!

Ps-
I'm curious if the altbot thing is giving a good enough description or not, too.

I'll be in LA next week, from 18th to 22nd. If anyone in the area wants to chat about #diybio #amateurscience #independentresearch please feel free to drop a note!

Rate my extraction protocol:

I want to extract quinine sulphate from some tablets I have.

This is how I propose to go about it.

I need the product pure for some optics experiments - making polarisers.

Registration and booking done for #ASMicrobe2025 woot!

I'll be presenting a poster on methylation patterns of an Archaeal genus members with focus on their MGE & rrn operons. It's something I've been tinkering with at the warehouse lab in Queens, hopefully building up to something interesting

Michael J. Coren: Why you should become a volunteer #urban #biodiversity scientist: Next time you pick up your phone to snap a seflie, try grabbing a photo of the life around you.

"Mountain lions prowl near downtown San Francisco. Leopards stalk the Mumbai suburbs. And kororā, or little penguins, nest under porches in New Zealand’s capital.

If you thought wildlife lived outside cities, you’re missing the wilderness outside your front door.

Tens of thousands of species coexist with humans in the concrete jungles that live up to their name. These plants and animals are just out of sight — unless, that is, you try to look for them."

Eclipses do odd things to radio waves. An army of amateur broadcasters wants to find out why

During the American solar eclipses of October 2023 and April 2024, hundreds of radio amateurs will take to the airwaves. Their goal is to help scientists investigate what happens to radio signals when the Moon blocks the Sun.
