Just a TIL - if you buy a #aeotec #smartthings hub, and it was manufactured before April 2024, there's a good chance it won't work, as the SSL cert in factory images before that expired in March 2025. You will likely get an error 33-504.

Once the firmware is updated, they're fine, but getting it to update is a challenge.

Workaround is to block NTP on your firewall, so the hub doesn't know what time it is upon reset, and it'll then happily work and update.

I just got a second hub from Amazon UK and it was manufactured in 2021, so it took a bit of digging to get the thing working.

I did an experiment - removing routers to test performance of Sonoff ZBDongle-E.

I kept only:

- ZBDongle-E as a coordinator,
- ZBDongle-E as a router,
- Gledopto LED strip controller, because I use it.

Zigbee network has been rock solid stable in above setup with over 20 battery powered end devices for past few days

Aeotec Zi-Stick ZGA008 had a problem maintaining links in such setup - without adding extra routers.

#aeotec #sonoff #zigbee

@NAB I'm bit curious, because I've currently got #Aeotec Zi-Stick (ZGA008), and things are flaky sometimes.

Map in #zigbee2mqtt shows some battery powered devices as not linked to any router - floating.

If I add an extra router, and have at least 1 router per 6 end devices, then all works good.

Wondering, if I would need less routers by switching coordinator to #Sonoff ZBDongle-E. It claims max 32 direct children.

I don't have a poor signal, though. Only the issue with number of end devices.

Smart Home Tour 2023

While Child is away at a very important and critical convention on anime, I am test driving two #Matter light bulbs and one Matter contact sensor.

This is my random reminder--as in the first--if you have yet to enter the exciting and honestly sometimes creepy world of home automation and are looking for an easy in, #Aeotec Smart Home Hub aka Aeotec #SmartThings Hub (was: Samsung SmartThings Hub) is still probably your best best bet for all-in-one that's run locally and works with everything.

I was finally able to install the #aeotec DoorBell 6 (model ZW162) #zwave device on my #vera z-wave plus by using the guide shown here: https://community.getvera.com/t/future-devices-compatability-like-the-aeotec-doorbell-6/208417/63

Key takeaway: You need to add it as a generic Z-wave device and then Vera central creates the 7 generic IO devices. Mine is running now the gong sound when doors or windows open by using this LUUP code:

luup.call_action('urn:micasaverde-com:serviceId:ZWaveNetwork1','SendData',{Node='22',Data='96 13 0 4 121 5 75 26'},1)

Its disappointing that Vera didn’t include this device fully as they do have included the previous doorbell version and actually have good support for a lot of devices (including wizard like manuals when you connect a new device).
