Progress today with #Proxmox on my #OptiPlex micro.. I can access the GUI from my laptop using the wired network and created a test VM. ✅
..and my #Sonoff kit arrived and seems solid. 🥳
My problem now is to get internet connectivity because I am using a mobile hotspot. The OptiPlex has WiFi (USB and possibly internally) but I can't configure them without internet access (to get required packages).
I need to share internet from the laptop and setup routing on the micro.

Mit den Sonoff DW2 wird das hier wohl keine Liebesbeziehung mehr.
Die WLAN-Variante lässt sich nur mit Netzen verbinden, die 802.11b unterstützen - trotz einigen Gebastels bekam ich das vorhandene Exemplar aber nicht gekoppelt. Eigentlich möchte ich allerdings sowieso nicht nur für diese eine Gerätegattung das uralte Protokoll wieder dauerhaft aktivieren.
Beim Sonoff DW2-RF hingegen lief die Kontaktaufnahme überraschend gut - rtl_433 ließ sich mit einem passend konfigurierten Flex-Decoder schnell zum Paketempfang überreden. Die Daten landeten dann ohne weitere Konfigurationserfordernis brav beim Mosquitto-Server.
Allerdings senden beide Geräte nur Datenpakete, wenn der Kontakt geöffnet wird, nicht beim Schließen. Das reicht ggf. für Alarmzwecke, jedoch nicht, um den aktuellen Zustand von Fenstern/Türen anzuzeigen. Es gibt zwar einen gar nicht mal so aufwendigen Umbau , aber ob ich darauf irgendwann mal Lust habe …

Hi, thank you for this hack, it works and I used the same resistance values as you 300ohm and 470ohm. Even if there is a delay of 6 seconds when closing before the “closed” command is sent it is not a big deal because the “open” command is instantaneous. Note that the closed command won’t be sent if you open it again within that 6 seconds delay and you will basically receive 2 open commands in a row. - finish tea. This is UK after all.
- attach kbd and monitor (actually grubby 14" TV)
- does it boot Windows?
- install Proxmox
- install #HomeAssistant
- wait for #Sonoff bits (ordered before the mini)
This is the beginning of my #HomeLab and first first into Home Automation. I only heard of Proxmox yesterday.
All the above is to give myself something *fun* to do for me, for a change.

Dipping my toes into #HomeAutomation starting with a couple of #Sonoff temp/humidity sensors + Dongle Lite to use with my laptop and #HomeAssistant before having a dedicated hub.
That's £51 so ok to play and get the basics.
Got any thoughts or suggestions?
Home Assistant Green looks good for a dedicated hub but at £150 a bit much until I've tested the basics out. This is for a house I'm not living in yet so monitoring is all I need.
The Dongle Max is called "MAX" for a reason.

This sounds really nice and should fix a major pain point with this device.
#Sonoff actually updates their thermostats every other month, but new features have not been part of this... until now.
